Chess - the board game
Chess is a two-player strategy board game played on a chessboard. It is one of the world's most popular games, played by millions of people worldwide. The game consists of a square checkered gameboard with 64 squares arranged in an eight-by-eight grid.
The objective of the game is to checkmate the opponent's king, which means the king is in a position to be captured (in "check") and there is no way to move it out of capture (mate). Each player starts with 16 pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. The pieces have different movement patterns and the players take turns moving their pieces across the board to strategically position themselves for an advantage.
Chess can be played in various settings, from casual games at home to competitive tournaments. It is also available online, allowing players to challenge opponents from around the world. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced player, Chess offers a challenging and intellectually stimulating experience.
